Disproving Our Preconceived Notions of Animal Intelligence

It is time for all of us to realize a fundamental truth about all life on earth. Animals are as conscious as we are, feel pain and suffering just like we do, and deserve to be treated in a different way. This from TruthOut:

De Waal reviews the rise and fall of the view of animals as machines and shows us how animal minds are far more intricate and complex than we have assumed. He challenges our anthropocentric view of humans being at the top of the cognitive and sentience ladder.

Man mauled after entering Chile zoo’s lion pen, 2 cats slain —

We wonder why two big cats had to die because one lunatic got mauled. The cats were not the instigators. Why kill them? Probably because of the mistaken notion that once they taste humans, they become man-eaters, but there is scant evidence of this theory being true. Regardless, every time a lunatic climbs a fence in a zoo, the animals pay the price.

Two lions were killed after they severely mauled a man who stripped naked and entered their enclosure in an apparent suicide attempt early Saturday, authorities said.

High Bridge Arms first opened in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco in the 1950s. The gun shop had good business, but store owner Andy Takahashi got fed up with increased regulation from the city. The store closed on Oct. 31 last year, after selling its final handgun. It was San Francisco’s last gun…
