Are corporations paying too much in taxes?Are U.S. companies paying too much in federal taxes, and therefore hindering job creation? That depends on whom you ask. Getting to a satisfactory answer to that question is about as complicated as the tax code itself. General Electric paid nothing in taxes last year due to write-offs associated with losses from its financial services arm, GMAC. Google paid an effective rate of around 2%, far below the 35% statutory corporate rate for publicly traded companies filing as C Corporations.
