Jay Carney is no longer the White House whipping boy for the fifth estate. As Carol Burnett wonderfully referred to them in The Front Page, the ‘gentlemen of the press’ will have to look elsewhere for a dog to kick.
Maybe watching a good man like Eric Shinseki get forced out of office by political clowns was too much for him to stand?
Does this signal the beginning of the lame duck exodus? Will Carney’s book tell us the gruesome details of an administration that does not play the Washington game very well? Or is he tired of the way journalism has become the blood sport of talking heads, droning on endlessly about nothing? Am I dreaming? It’s a book, of course. Can’t wait to read it.
