Probably the most frustrating effect of a GOP-controlled congress is the mind-numbing hearings we will surely endure about the environment. The Republicans cannot face the truth about what we are doing to this world. Like healthcare, it flies in the face of their long-held belief that private enterprise can always do better than government. That is absurd. If you want a good example of this in your own home town, google ‘Superfund sites’ and find one near you. The country is littered with the effects of private enterprise running rough-shod over our water and air. The effects of this are catastrophic in the personal lives of those who develop cancer, and breathing problems. The truth is we don’t really understand what our pollution is doing to us, and that is good enough for the party in power. They will fight to allow more pollution in the name of jobs, and growth, despite the painful consequences.
