The Iran deal is done. Now the real war begins. The hawks in the US Congress will call this a betrayal. Israel will call it much worse. The truth is that years of sanctions against countries like Iran ignore the obvious; you cannot keep a nation as large and as strategic as Iran isolated from the rest of the world. And why would you? To create another North Korea?
The only solution to heal our relations with Iran is to negotiate, establish relationships, and trade. It will not always go our way, but partners in trade are much less likely to go to war. Will this stop the nuclear ambitions of Iran? Nothing but a nuclear-free middle east will do that, and we know that Israel has no intention of disarming.
Israel and the congressional hawks will decry this as capitulation. It is not. It is our most logical course of action. The other roads lead nowhere.
